Long before Pinterest came around, I was that girl who not only loved planning themed parties, but loved expressing my creativity with attention to even the smallest details. If you've followed along on Instagram this summer, then you know that I got to dust off my party planning hat and throw a Bohemian-inspired baby shower for one of my older sisters (I have 3!) and her new baby girl.
Naturally, there was a LOT of calligraphy, from the invitations and envelopes to signage and tags at the event, but there were also some fun touches I added to help make her day extra special.
Below, I've rounded up some of my faves from photos I was able to snap in between frosting cakes (I'm insane and made 3) and running around like a madwoman.
My brother-in-law is an absolute hero, and built this HUGE sandwich board sign for me to stain and paint as a fun hand-lettered touch in the foyer of the church hall where the shower was held. I haven't painted so many flowers since my Georgia O'Keefe obsession in 8th grade, and it was so much fun to get out of my comfort zone and go crazy with florals.
Since I was on a floral kick, I also stained and painted this sweet 8x10 wood slice to decorate the gift table. Pictured here with the flower crown my mom and I put together for the Mama-To-Be.
I'm 99.9% sure my phone was covered in frosting when I snapped this pic, but how cute does my sister look with her big crown + bigger belly?! You can also see my wood + floral frenzy extended to the food table, where I put together this sweet little menu to keep on the table throughout the day.
While calligraphy was my main focus for the shower (because, ya know, that's my thing), these centerpieces completely stole my heart. The wood slices are courtesy of my oldest sister, and are approximately 3 times bigger than we ever imagined getting (seriously - those bad boys are about 15 inches in diameter and a good inch thick!). Add in some pretty flowers and crystals, and I think we nailed "Boho" on the head!
We also made these simple wreaths from greens from my backyard, and spruced up a chair for Mama-To-Be with some fabric and fresh flowers.
In lieu of games (because we're 110% not shower game people), I made this sweet 16x20 print of a dream catcher for people to add their thumbprint "feathers" too, as well as advice cards to help out the new mom.
Did I mention the 3 cakes?! Instead of one larger cake or a million cupcakes, I made 3 8-inch naked and half-naked cakes (with flowers on top, of course!).
And strawberries! I threw this picture in because (1) they're beautiful, and (2) this was my favorite food sign of them all. I used some pink acrylic and cardstock I already had on hand to "watercolor" these small signs for each dish on the table to tie in the watercolored signs from the dreamcatcher print and favor cart.
Keeping the florals and watercolors strong with the favors for each guest - a seedling of calendula, sunflower, or zinnia!
And finally, an extra special touch on the back of the welcome sign for guests to see as they left!
Being able to plan + craft such a dreamy shower was such a treat, and a fun break from the day to day stuff that usually goes on behind the scenes here at G&B. Plus, now I'll get a baby girl to spoil in just 7 more weeks (I have 3 nephews but have been begging my sisters for a girl so it's about damn time!).
